Welding and Fabrication Apprenticeship
Entry requirements
GCSE grade D or above in Mathematics, English Language and a Science based subject. Engineering would be an advantage.
Relevant NVQ, GNVQ subjects will also be considered.
What training is available?
- Sheet metal working
- Heavy structural steel working
- Fabrication of equipment and machinery parts
What does Welding & Fabrication work involve?
- Cutting, bending and shaping materials to make components and engineering systems
- Joining materials together using different welding systems, such as MIG, TIG and other welding equipment
- Inspecting and testing welded products

The Training Programme
- The programmes generally range from two to four years, which consists of both in-company and off-site training with assessment and attendance at college for further educational purposes
- Further education is generally undertaken at Keighley College
- Attendance at college is day release
The Qualifications Outcome
- NVQ levels 2 & 3 in your chosen area
- Technical Certificate for knowledge and understanding
- Key Skills in Information Technology, Application of Number and Communications
- Possible additional qualifications relevant to your work
- Advanced Apprenticeship certificate or Foundation Apprenticeship certificate depending on the level of course you follow
- A chance to be entered for national awards through the Welding Institute
